John Michael Talbot wrote an interesting article on his view of the future of the music industry. I particularly liked this paragraph:
The new generation wants to be communicated with, not marketed. They want to read communication, not a sales pitch. This means the artists themselves must personally invest large amounts of energy and time into maintaining their blogs and web pages by sharing what is behind the music as well as just what’s in the music. This means sharing their vision, thoughts, and feelings with those who support their music.
Audiences of the past are used to being marketed to but audiences now don’t want marketing and they can spot it a mile away. They want and demand sincere and frequent relational interaction.
Mailing lists, blogs, web site news pages, podcasts. These tools make staying in touch so easy for today’s artists. What are you doing to deepen your relationships with your audience?
John Michael Talbot covers a number of other areas of the new music revolution with some great food for thought. Read the article here.
