Oink! Oink!
“This is the BEST DAY EVER!!! Better than DisneyLand!!!” she said as she laid in bed with a 103.5 fever, her little body tired from endless coughing.
The Small Person never gets sick, at least not sick enough to stay in bed at home. But the good old H1N1 (or as my doctor brother-in-law calls it “The Bacon Flu”) knocked her out for the last four days.
And she loved every minute of it.
Our Infirmary
Granted, our makeshift infirmary (my office) DOES make a cozy hospital room. There are loads of windows, from which we watched the rain, the birds and the other kids play. She had her own tv. We watched more cartoons and movies than she’s ever watched in a 96 hour period. Throw in lots of books, a million card games with Mommy and the candy we used to bribe her to take her anti-viral meds ….it all adds up to a really great weekend.
Bonding Time
I was actually sick too, just a bad cold, though. I laid in my bed, while she laid in hers and we talked, watched Anne of Green Gables and coughed up a storm. Jimmy brought us breakfast in bed and took care of the other two while I rested and and tended to our Swine Flu victim.
Making Memories
I have to agree, it was a great weekend. I’m glad we’re all better now, though.
And next time we want to have fun and make memories, maybe we’ll just go to Disney Land.
Do you have good or bad memories of being sick as a child?

Poor girl. In reading your tweets, I have been praying for her. Looks like she’s kept in good spirits though!
When I was a Junior in High School I was sick with the flu for almost a month. It was so bad that I eventually developed bronchitis—couching to the point of actually bruising my chest. I missed 3 weeks of school and had to surrender my part in the musical. I was devastated.

I have good memories of being sick. I loved missing school, and my mama took wonderful care of me.
And I’m having office envy again. More pics please!

Marla,
If only we’d had this house when you were doing the 52 zoo thing. The office and bedroom would have been all yours. I would have even let you raid my office supply drawer and color code a few manila folders.
Maybe next time you’re in Texas….
Kyle,
Another fun and dorky thing we did was play the temperature game. I’d feel her forehead guess what her temp was to the hundreth degree and she’d take her temp and tell me how close I was. Amazingly, I was about 50 percent right on.
It’s always fun to impress your kids…

I don’t have fond memories of being sick at home because I had mostly stomach flus growing up. But the days watching movies is a good memory.
I’m so glad to hear that you both are on the mend.

I’m constantly amazed at that paradox…When I put aside my “to-do-list” to veg out with my kids, the list eventually takes care of itself and I get the blessing of being with my favorite people in the world!
Glad you were able to play those card games together!

So true, Sally. The to do list is never as important as it seems. And the memories we make are priceless!
