A Birthday Present Better Than a MacBook

600871-R1-00-0

(Me back when I sported those red, bow shaped, plastic barrettes that never stay snapped.)

Last year, Jimmy gave me a MacBook for my birthday. A shiny, fast, cool MacBook.

This year, he outdid himself. In addition to a cool notebook I’ve been wanting, he informed me that I will spend my birthday morning (today) at my fav coffee shop AND I’d also go on Saturday too!!!

Seriously, I can’t imagine a better surprise.

This summer has been incredibly busy (hence my lack of blogging). With the move, a bunch of trips and several other things going on, I haven’t had much time to myself. And I die slowly without my “cave” time. We’ve had a ton of fun the past few weeks, but I’m definitely ready for a few hours of alone time.

Well, alone with all the other coffee shop customers…

The Cake

Jimmy is also making my favorite birthday cake. Chocolate cake with lemon icing. It may sound odd, but it’s “oh so good.”

I honestly don’t remember a birthday with anything different. My grandma made it for me every year. And now Jimmy makes it. What a sweet husband I have.

IMG_1363.JPG

(This pic is from a couple years ago, but isn’t he a cute baker?)

We’re also going to have a picnic at the Children’s Museum for lunch. We did that last year and now my kids are convinced it’s been a life long tradition. Because when you’re 5 and 7 doing something once makes it so. They’re so excited about it. And I’m so excited because they’re so excited.

I love how that works.

The Age

Just to get the Pink Elephant out of the room, I’m 34. It’s funny how I think that’s so old, but then I think 80 is old too. And people who are 80 were 34 way back in 1963….and they’re still alive now. So maybe 34 isn’t so old…

Well, I’m off to enjoy a few quiet hours. I hope you have a perfectly wonderful day. I pray that you’d live today in the joy and peace of being deeply loved by the God of Heaven and Earth.

The Question

Are you older or younger than 34? And what kind of cake do you like for your birthday?

Surprise! I am older than you. 38 in about a month.

Since there aren’t many cakes made of steak I am going to have to go with an ice cream cake of some sort. I like the chocolate crunchy things they put in there.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday! Sounds wonderful to be able to go spend some alone time in a coffee shop. Enjoy, Enjoy.

As for age, currently, we are the same age. But in October, I turn 35 and will then be older than you.  cheese

Christy,

Sounds yummy!

Shelby,

Will you be here when your birthday rolls around?

Suzanne,

Isn’t it funny that in jr. an age difference of 10 months was a big deal?

Well, enjoy your youth for the next 2 months. grin

Happy birthday, Kat. I hope you enjoy your time in the cave.

And to make you feel better, I’m 37. And a half, as my kids routinely say.

Yet I think of myself as about 31. Isn’t it funny how we do that?

My favorite birthday cake changes. My birthday is in January, and I love making the cake you see at the top of this post at that time of year. It’s a white cake with lemon curd in the middle, topped with white frosting the consistency of marshmallow that’s then covered with coconut.

But in the summer, for my kids’ birthdays, I love making the world’s best chocolate cake with sour cream chocolate frosting.

Lauren,

My grandma had a recipe, but now we just use the boxed stuff. On occasion I’ll pull out her recipe, though.

Kelly,

Wow. That sounds (and looks) incredible!

I just turned 42 *no, that can’t be true. I am 32, right? RIGHT?* this month smile. And I *feel* 32. Or so. Which must mean that 42 feels like 32? I am confusing myself already.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

And cake…… I’m from Europe so I’ll be different here: a freshly baked apple tart (torte? how on earth do you spell that here in the US?) – ok, in Dutch: appeltaart – with freshly whipped whipped cream. Excuse me, I am getting hungry now.

Happy birthday! Hope you have a blessed day!!

I’ll have to remember that because my sister’s birthday is tomorrow. I’m still in my 20s…haha 29, but only 7.5 more months until the big 3-0. I don’t feel older than my 29, but I know lots of people my age or younger (singles or with no kids) that are always complaining about aches and pains and too busy to do this and that. What?!

I like almost any kind of cake. We usually have ice cream cake for my mom and my birthday (I was born on my mom’s birthday).

I’ll catch up to you in January, Kat!

I usually ask for pie instead of cake for my bday.

I’m older 43 to be exact! I’m happy with whatever cake I’m given. I just happy if my family remembers. They’ve been known to forget.

Jeanine – ok. I might need to change my tradition. Sounds delish!

Pokinatcha – all 7 of them?!

Euphrony – For a second I read that you are 2 days and 20 years older and I thought, “WOW!!! I’ve NEVER seen such a young looking 54 year old.” Then I read it properly…good thing I’m not a CPA. Numbers – not my thing. grin

Shelby – What’s up with the 20th? First, it was the day scheduled for our house closing. Then, we learned it’s the day my girls start school. Now, it’s ALSO the day you move in! I’ve never seen such a popular Thursday. Can’t wait to see you!

Happy belated Birthday!

I am 26 and have not been a fan of birthdays since 22. HOWEVER, I got to see Bethany Dillon live for the first time (have been a fan for years) and meet her, so I can’t complain too much about turning 26 this year.

I don’t usually get a cake for my birthday.  In fact, I haven’t had a cake since I turned 21 but that was because I also graduated from college the same day.

Happy Birthday, Kat! smile I hope you have a really wonderful day.

I’m younger–just turned 21 last month. And I’m loving this age. smile And I like a yellow cake (boxed cake mix all the way!) with LOTS of chocolate frosting. It’s what my mom makes every year.

34 isn’t old. I am 37 (will be 38 this year) and 40 isn’t old, 50 isn’t old, none of those “you are so old” ages are old to me anymore.

Favorite birthday cake? Boston Cream Pie…. drool!

I’m 28, and my favorite type of cake isn’t really a “cake” at all, but I will submit it into the running for best desert ever because of it’s supreme awesomeness.

it’s a three layer, calorie heavy, near spiritual experience I like to call “Brownie-Cheesecake thing with Cherries on Top” It’s made in a pyrex pan. The first layer is brownie, the second layer is cheesecake and the third layer is that cherry filling stuff you get in a can.

stick a fork in me, cause I am DONE!
