Oh, The Symbolism!!!

Speaking of raising children. Isn’t this picture a great representation of what we do as moms?

IMG_0028.JPG

We bring home the chubby little caterpillar, nurture it and help it become what God intended – something more beautiful than we could have ever imagined.

….and aren’t those just GORGEOUS kids?! grin

Have you ever raised a butterfly?

It was absolutely fascinating for all of us. (You can order a butterfly kit here.)

I am encouraged for my own life, just to read the butterfly story.

We raised butterflies a couple of years ago… had great success with that.  I’m thinking my daughter was 6.  She’ll be 9 next month, and still talks about it.

We’ve also thought about doing ladybugs or (my favorite) praying mantises.

It’s amazing what happens when we stop and consider something from a different perspective. I laughed out loud remembering my “little grubby caterpillars!”

As a father, I have often felt like my grubby sausage hands have spent more time damaging wings and bending little antennae. Thank God children are resilient. And God is merciful.

And that I finally learned to let go a little bit.

Just a little…

Daniel,

Those are some wonderful words of wisdom…that I needed to hear. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, that is a great representation.  I feel like I just let two of my butterflies go this week, as we dropped our 11 and 8 year old boys off at camp for the week for the first time… I had a restless night last night as I dealt with fears and God reminding me that he holds their lives in His hands.

I didn’t know there was such a thing as raising butterflies.  Where do you get such a kit?

As a kid, I gathered caterpillars every year and kept them in a box with twigs and oak leaves.  They’d all cocoon, and I’d end up with a bunch of brown moths.  Yes, the first time, I was a bit disappointed that they weren’t beautiful butterflies, but I still appreciated the experience and continued the tradition for several years.  Pretty darn neat.  God’s work is amazing.
