My Two Year Old Miracle

IMG_3938

The Story

Two years ago today my little boy was born.

My doctor had scheduled to have me induced because she was concerned about how big he might be.  So we arrived at the hospital at 6:30 in the morning.

The nurses hooked my up to various machines and started asking me the typical questions before they started the induction drugs. They commented on how healthy I was and how great my son was doing and then all of the sudden one nurse said, “Turn to the side.”

“Roll over to the other side.”

“Sit up bit for me.”

(To the other nurse.) “Call the Dr.”

Nurses were running down the hall, people hurried in and they were talking about my boy’s heart rate dropping. Fast.

My doctor came in and then they were running me down the hall in to the OR.

Within minutes I was sedated and they were doing the emergency c-section.

Poor Jimmy. One minute his wife and baby were the picture of health and the next minute doctors were running around and taking us away.

Jimmy just had to wait – not entirely sure of what happened. Some sweet friends of ours left work and came straight to the hospital to wait with him. They called everyone and asked them to pray for the situation.

I remember waking up in the recovery room and everything was foggy. I was really, really groggy and barely able to talk. Here’s what I remember saying:

Me: “Baby…ok?”

Nurse: Yes. He’s fine.

Me: “Husband…ok?”

Nurse: “He’s fine too.”

Me: “Tummy…HUUUUURRRRT”

My girls CRACK UP at that last part every time.

The Crazy Thing

The reason my son’s heart rate dropped suddenly was because I had something called a tetonic contraction, which from what I understand is a contraction that just doesn’t stop. So the baby doesn’t have a chance to recover from it.

If my doctor hadn’t scheduled the induction at that very hour – on that very day – I wouldn’t have been in the hospital when it happened and the outcome might not have been as happy.

He’s my miracle boy and I’m completely in love with him.

Oh, God is good, isn’t He!  To have you in the hospital that very day, that very hour, to deliver that precious little boy into your arms. What a blessing.

And your little guy?  He is DARLING.

So, my daughter just turned 2 in Dec.  How do you feel about arranged marriages? grin

Oh, he IS adorable.  Love the star picture–I think that one is my favorite, but I’m kinda leaning toward that last one with the super-sweet smile too.

I hadn’t heard that story before.  I’ve never heard of a tetonic contraction, but I sure am glad you were already in the hospital and those nurses and doctors acted quickly!

Happy Birthday to your special little guy!  smile

My guy’s (7th) birthday was Thursday. He also had complications that no one was expecting. The hard part for us? He was born in a German hospital & I had no one to ask what was wrong because of the personnel’s limited English & my nearly non-existent ‘Deutsch’! Talk about trusting God! He gave me an amazing peace, though. I look back now & cannot believe I was not more stressed!

Anyway, I put a little slide show up on my blog if you would like to see some pics!

So sweet.  Hearing friends’ birth stories always brings me to tears.  I can’t believe I’m going to have another story myself by the end of the year.

Happy Belated Birthday, little man!
