There are many things that I aspire to be. In short, I want to burn bright for the Lord to the point that I keep others warm around me. I want to live in such away that I bring encouragement and hope to all I am fortunate to cross paths with. No matter where life’s road may takes me, I want to honor the Lord with all that I am and all that I have so that when I cross life’s finish line His voice will befall my ear saying well done good and faithful one.

This is a little different, but recently I made a list called, “Things I Know for Sure.” I put things on it like: I know I need to love, honor and help my husband. I know I need to feed my children, I know I need to teach God’s truths to my children, I know for sure I want to know Jesus more....etc. I did this so that I could focus on the things that I know for sure I should be doing, since I tend to get distracted by so many other good things and lose track of what is most important. I keep it on a piece of paper in my Bible to refer to when I seem to be out of balance. I figure the list ended up long enough to keep me plenty busy when I had to decide how to spend my time.

Love your mission statement!

Ann,
I’m glad it was only a medical scare…

Honestly, I hadn’t really intended for my mission statement to coincide. It’s pretty cool for you to notice that it does. Definitely affirms I’m on the right track!

When we went through a medical scare with my hub 11 years ago, it helped us evaluate what really matters to us. It came down to something very simple: the greatest (and second greatest) commandment. Love the Lord with all my heart, soul, mind and strength; and neighbor (family, friends, anyone the Lord puts in my life) as myself.

That seems to be what you’ve written, personalized for the people the Lord’s put in your life. And also reaching out with this message of love and devotion to Christ. It’s simple, but powerful, and should help you make decisions day by day. Very inspiring!

Sarah,
I like that one too. I’m a sucker for alliteration...and it’s very thorough and succinct.

Tara,
I hope you’ll share yours with us when you write it!

Mmmm....love this. Going to have to go ponder this for a bit and write one similar for myself. It helps me to have a focus. Thanks!

Ditto!

Except… uh, insert “Billy” for “Jimmy.” lol

I actually took my “purpose statement” from Rick Warren’s book:

My life’s purpose is to have a Great Commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

It’s all cute and “Warren-y,” but it makes the general point.

I like the specific-ness of yours, though, too. Helps to focus your energies.

Ginger,

Copy away!

I hope you find having a mission statement as helpful as I have found it to be.

Wow! Can I just copy yours? (Except the Jimmy part, of course?)
No, really, I think this is a great idea & you have inspired me to do the same thing. Having a mission statement obviously gives you direction & helps you to know when you are going off course, two things I am lacking these days. Thanks so much!
