Music Monday: Songs and Books and a FREE iTunes GC

It’s Music Monday!

Today’s Music Monday will be a little different.

Since I’ve been working on my ebook all week, I thought I’d pose a book-related challenge to all you music aficionados:

–Name a song (or songs) with the word “book” in the lyrics.–

Whoever can name the most songs wins a $10 iTunes Gift Certificate.

(You are allowed to cheat by using Google as long as you let us know you used a search engine. Entries will be appropriately weighted.)

Have fun! (And if you like giveaways, there are more happening here.)

(Next week, we’ll be kicking Music Monday up a notch. The theme will be “If I ran a record label, I would…” Stay tuned for more info.)

Aerosmith, Dream On

“No more pencils, no more books”

Alice Cooper, School’s Out

“This is the book I never read

“These are the words I never said”

It took me years to write, will you take a look?”

Beatles, Paperback Writer

“Did you write the book of love, and do you have faith in God above?”

Don McLean, American Pie

My favorite would be by Harry Connick Jr., it is on the When Harry Met Sally soundtrack.

I could Write a Book

If they asked me I could write a book

About the way you walk and whisper and look

I could write the preface on how we met

So the world would never forget

And the simple secret of the plot

Is just to tell them that I love you a lot

Then the world discovers as my book ends

How to make two lovers of friends

American Pie:

Did you write the book of love, and do you have faith in God above…if the Bible tells me so.

And do you believe in Rock n ROll…can music, save your mortal soul, and can you teach me how to dance reeeaaal slow.

Well, I know that you’re in love with him, cause I saw you dancin’ in the gym, you both kicked off your shoes…oh I dig those rythmy blues.

I was a lonely teenaged broncing buck, with a pink carnation and a pick-up truck, but I knew I was out of luck, the day, the music died…and they were singing….

I hope I got it right, lol, I wrote it from memory!  I love this song…always brings a smile to my face and it’s so much fun to sing!

“End of the Beginning” by David Phelps

I was taking a trip on a plane the other day, just wishin’ that I could get out.

When the man next to me saw the book in my hand and asked me what it was about.

So I settled back in my seat. “A best-seller,” I said, “a hist’ry and a myst’ry in one.”

Then I opened up the book and began to read from Matthew, Mark, Luke and John…

I only have two songs that I want to share, but they are great songs. Michael W. Smith has a song “End of the Book” that’s on his Michael W. Smith 2 CD. It reminds me of what I need to do when things get tough.

The other song is “Unbelievable” by Downhere. This song is on their Wide-Eyed and Mystified CD. Downhere is my favorite band, and I feel so blessed to have found them and their music. I am so inspired by their talent and passion. The song “Unbelievable” talks about all the songs that have been written for God because God’s love is so great, even all the songs in all the hymn books can’t fully describe it. I really love Jason Germain’s voice on this song. I can just really feel the love of God when I hear this song. Plus, I’m a big fan of Handel’s “Messiah”, so I like the way Jason sings “For the Lord God omnipotent reigns” in a “Hallelujah Chorus” type of way.

“Deeper Look!” I don’t know how common the song is, but it’s beautiful!

“Is it all just a story in some old book, or have you had a deeper look? “

and the old hymn, “I Love the Old Bible” (^^,)

This old Book is my guide, ‘Tis a friend by my side, It will lighten and brighten my way;…”

Let all Mortal Flesh Keep Silence

Be Thou my Vision

Come, Thou Fount

Like the murmur of the doves’ song

My Song is Love Unknown

The Church’s One Foundation

Come, Thou Almighty King

Ride on in Majesty

Jesus Christ is Risen Today

Hail, thee, Festival Day

I Bind Unto Myself Today

What wondrous love is this, O my soul?

When Morning Gilds the Skies

Morning Has Broken

O Love that Wilt not let me go

Drop, Drop, Slow tears

Alleluia! Sing to Jesus

Love Divine, All Love Excelling

Were You there?

Swing Low, Sweet Chariot

He’s Got the Whole World

Lord, I Want to be a Christian

We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder

I’ll Fly Away

As the Deer Longs

A Keeper of the Door

The Strife is O’er

Lo,the Green Bud Swelling

Silent Night

O Come all ye faithful

Hark the Herald

It Came upon a Midnight ClearWe Three Kings

That’s enough! Purpose 37
