100 Reasons Why I Hate Internet Explorer 6
<techie rant >
(Please pardon this techie rant. I’ve just been in a lot of wrestling matches lately with IE6 and trying to get various sites to play nice with it.)
100 Reasons Why I Hate Internet Explorer 6
1. Bad CSS rendering.
2 – 100. Bad CSS rendering.
For The Sake of All That Is Good
If you’re still using IE6, please, please, please (ad nauseum) upgrade your browser.
Better yet, use Firefox.

Actually, I could do better. I finageled my way into getting admin rights on my desk and lab computers, so technically I could install whatever I wanted. However, if I had any problem with my computer in the future and needed help fixing it, the tech guys would come in, notice my non-standard programs, blaim them off hand for any problem I was having, and re-image my computer. Then I would have to start all over in customizing the computer with personal preferences and the actual necessary non-standard programs I use. To much of a bother, so I suffer with IE6.
I do use IE7 at home. It works pretty well, and I get tired of using fairly different programs to do the same thing at work and home. To much effort to think.

Oh I couldn’t say this enough either. Why would anyone use anything but Firefox???? (and a few more question marks for emphasis ??????)

Or better yet, use Opera. Firefox of course is nice, but not as fast as Opera.

euphrony probably won’t be reading this, but if anyone else is having the same problem, head over to portableapps.com, download Portable Firefox and stick it on a USB stick. Then just run it at work

Yeah I hate IE6 too and my company hasn’t upgraded to IE7 yet…. But we are planning on it. The dumb thing is so many corporate things are programmed for IE6 exclusively and thats why its taking so long to get to IE7.
As far as Opera being better than Firefox. I’ll agree that it is faster, but every time I use Opera I find myself getting frustrated with a site not working or something else and then I move back to Firefox. They are both great browsers, but Firefox is better for me, and the extensions really enhance it (in fact I couldn’t live without some of them).

Amen! And AMEN!
Checking the stats on my site this morning revealed that less than 10% of my users are on IE6. I’ve always told myself that if that happens, I can go ahead and ‘drop support’ for it.
Not that I’ll remove my pngfix.js file, or my ie6.css sytlesheet, but I’m no longer going out of my way to get IE6 to render my site correctly.

I’m so feed up with IE6 I could scream. If every site stopped accepting IE6, we would all be much happier. And people would get real browsers, like Firefox.
Thanks Kat for the post. Bad CSS, bad CSS rendering…

I hate IE full stop!
IE7 is a bag of poo too!
Oh, how I wish Microsoft would remove IE completely and force users to choose a browser in an unbiased fashion.
M$ claimed IE was integrated into the OS to improve user experiences. Does anyone think that having your browser hacked and then not being able to install it is a good user experience? Also, M$ could have provided APIs to enable any browser to integrate with their OS if user experience was their prime-motivation.
Anyone know of a 100 reasons why I hate silverlight website?

Couldn’t agree with you more!
When I saw the link “100 Reason’s Why I Hate Internet Explorer 6” my only though was – you only have 100? As a web and graphic designer I unfortunately have to use IE6 for clients, it truly is the worst part of my job.
Maybe considering adding 101-200: Bad CSS Rendering

The stupidest thing about Internet explorer is that it does not support all javascript by default and that sucks!!!!!!!!!!!
The other thing is all this people who wouldn’t leave xp/ie6 because of some lame reasons like i am used!!
The same problems occurs with .docx and .doc ie Office07 and office03
let spread the hatred it’s 2009 people wouldn’t 2001 technology(and it’s free)

I’m having a bad IE6 day! Building a new site and IE6 is driving me mad. Why does it not support png transparency when it was Microsoft who came up with the png format year’s earlier? Madness. IE6 is still showing as a little under 15% of our traffic, it is a shame because Chrome would kill for that kind of market share.

The thing I find the most aggravating about IE besides the fact that it is slow and clunky, is that if you are using multiple windows (as I very often do) and have something loading in another window, as soon as it finishes it automatically brings it to the front. So if you happen to be typing in a different window and are not looking at the screen, you can get rather far before realizing what happened and have to do it all over again! Firefox Rules!!!!!
