I Want To Be Like Pollyanna

image

I want to be a person who seeks out the joy in life.

I was frustrated today because I really wanted to get out with the girls. I wanted to take them to the library or the Y but my son was a bit fussy and I didn’t think we’d last long if we went out.

I started a downward slope of thinking about how hard this season of life is. How tired I often am and how my patience is tested each and every day.

But then I realized how negative that thinking is. It’s ridiculous really. There are so many people in this world who would give everything for the life I live and here I am ungrateful and complaining.

So I want to counter every negative situation that comes my way.

I want to be like Pollyanna.

When my girls whine or have a less than obedient day, I want to walk in the joy that they are healthy and have robust lungs with which to whine and cry.

When my husband has a 7:30am meeting for work, I want to walk in the joy that he works from home and gets to be with us until 7:29am.

When I’m tired for a middle of the night feeding, I want to walk in the joy that my son is alive and perfectly healthy.

Whatever the situation, I want to find the joy in it.

There is always someone in the world who would love to walk in my shoes and I want to live my life looking through their eyes.

What about you? What are you thankful for today?

I used to play the glad game until I realized it had all become very sarcastic…smile

Today I am thankful for air conditioning.

I struggle with this, trying not to grumble about small problems and being grateful for what I have.

It’s easy to look at what’s missing.  I’m thankful for living in such a prosperous, safe, full-of-opportunities time.

Well, 4 days into it and I failed. I was pretty grumpy and unthankful this morning. Fortunately, it’s Sunday and church has a way of getting me out of my funk and giving me a proper focus.

“I’m thankful for living in such a prosperous, safe, full-of-opportunities time.”

I agree. I think it’s pretty crazy what can be accomplished with a laptop and a bit of free time.
